About Tatum Dentistry in Charleston, SC

Who We Are

We are a two-doctor general dental practice in the Charleston Medical District. We are run by women, staffed by people who have been here for decades, and built around the idea that you deserve to be seen not processed. Dr. Vicki Tatum founded the practice 36 years ago and Dr. Celeste Granger joined her eight years ago. Together, the two of them and a team of skilled hygienists, assistants and patient coordinators take care of generations of Charleston families.

We are fee-for-service. That is not a fancy way of saying expensive, it means we are not in any insurance network, and our recommendations come from what your mouth and body actually need. While we are out of network, we do file insurance for patients. Our focus is doing the work right and standing behind it for decades.

What you will find here is patience, time, and the kind of care that comes from genuinely loving the work. Most of our new patients walk through the door because someone they trust sent them. That is not a coincidence. It is the natural outcome of doing beautiful, lasting work and treating people the way we would want to be treated.

Comfort and Amenities

We take comfort seriously here. We’ve built it into every room and our team brings it to life. While we take our work very seriously, we also don’t believe coming to the dentist should feel like, well… going to the dentist.

Experienced and Caring Team

The people taking care of you have been doing this together for a long time and they actually love it. You'll feel that continuity the moment you walk in, and you'll feel it every visit after.

Technology That Provides Value

We invest in technology that helps you see, understand, and preview your results, not just diagnose. Digital scanning replaced goopy impression trays years ago. 3D imaging shows us your airway and bite in ways traditional X-rays cannot. Every tool here earns its place.

Sedation Options for Anxious Patients

If laughing gas helps you settle in, you can have nitrous oxide for any procedure here including a routine cleaning. For patients who need a little more, we can prescribe a mild oral sedative to take beforehand. Dental anxiety is real. We'll figure out what works.

Convenient Appointments, No Rush

We reserve two full hours for your first visit. We also keep select Saturday hours for the people whose weeks do not leave room for anything else. Good dentistry takes time, and we would rather do it right than do it fast.

Inside the Office

We are on Courtenay Drive in the Charleston Medical District, near MUSC and the Children's Hospital, with easy access from West Ashley, Mount Pleasant, North Charleston, and the Downtown Peninsula. Inside, the reception area feels more like a living room than a waiting room. Calm, cozy, unhurried the kind of space where your shoulders drop a little before anyone even calls your name. That feeling is intentional. It is the first piece of how we take care of you here.

What Charleston Patients Say About Us

The thing we hear the most? You really have a good team. It’s music to our ears. We love hearing from our patients about the care they received here.
